No organisation wants injuries at work and especially those resulting in long term absence, it can prove costly in many ways. It has been claimed that one in three accidents at work is caused by poor manual handling techniques and circa 300,000 people in the UK suffer from back pain due to manual handling accidents. At MHS we believe that almost all of these injuries are preventable and most occur purely to lack of knowledge and complacency.
From an employer’s perspective, manual handling training is a legal requirement in any situation where your staff are required to do any lifting, lowering, pulling or pushing that carries any level of risk.
You can carry out manual handling ‘awareness’ training online however, there are significant advantages to ‘live’ face to face training. Manual handling is a practical activity and both good and poor techniques are best demonstrated by a live practical session with delegates being involved. Delegates will get to practice with assessments and demonstrate how to assess risk, best posture and stance throughout the course of their work. At MHS we believe that the only way to truly develop manual handling awareness and technique is to allow employees to be trained ‘hands on’ with the kit that ‘they’ use and not just limit training to a short online awareness course.
Mark has circa 25 years of experience in developing and perfecting practical / classroom manual handling training. He has worked in many sectors and has witnessed first-hand the negative and sometimes life changing impacts caused by poor manual handling techniques. He has delivered MH training in various working environments with some being extremely demanding. His teaching method is very relaxed and he encourages class participation throughout the course. Ultimately, he wants to educate his course attendees and remove / reduce the risk of them sustaining a manual handling injury in the workplace.
